New steam book launched
A new book on The Ribble Steam Railway wiill be launched on Tuesday 15th October at The University of Central Lancashire. John Claridge, the author, will be hosting a talk from 4pm to 6pm in Lecture Theatre 4 of The Foster Building. The event is supported by the CAD group.
Bulb planting will take place this Saturday at Moor Park from 1pm to 3pm. Meet at the Rangers pavilion at Moor Park, Garstang Road. No charge for the event.
A health walk will take place at Cuerden Valley Park on Thursday from 10am to 12pm. Meet at the barn on Berkeley Drive.
A mid-week meander will take place tomorrow at Brockholes nature reserve. Meet outside the welcome centre at 1.30pm.
Nursery plans for office premises
Planning chiefs are being asked to allow a business unit in Preston to be converted into a children’s nursery. The premises, in Cable Court on Pittman Way, Fulwood, have been largely empty since 2008 apart from a couple of short-term lets. The owners have applied for planning permission, urging the city council to grant a change of use.
Local artists in the frame
Scores of artistic “treasures” will be showcased at a special exhibition in Penwortham this weekend. The Over 60s Hut in Priory Lane, will be transformed into a gallery by Penwortham Art Club with more than 100 original artwork for sale. Admission is free.
People interested in birdwatching and natural history can pick up a few tips from a series of summer talks and winter talks by Preston BNHS at St Mary’s Church Hall in Penwortham on Mondays.
Organisers of Penwortham Food Bank have sent out an SOS for tinned donations, including soup and meat, to be taken to St Mary’s Church.

An origami workshop will be held at Queen’s Drive Primary School in, Fulwood, Preston, tonight,hosted by Preston Art Club.
Firefighters were called to a blaze in a caravan on a driveway in Lythefell Avenue, Lancaster after wiring from a fridge-freezer overheated. The owner put the fire out before the crew arrived.
