Welfare advice drop in session
A session giving advice on upcoming benefit changes will be held today. Preston Council’s One Stop Shop at the Town Hall will be giving help and advice on council tax benefit and housing benefit changes from 9am to 4pm. More details can be found at www.preston.gov.uk/april2013
Choices for young people
An event where young people can find out about college and apprenticeships will take place. It is being organised by Lancashire County Council and will provide advice and support for people aged 15 to 19. It will take place from 1pm to 5pm on March 19 at Chorley Community Centre.
Seek help with support group
Central Lancashire’s ME Support Group will be giving advice on services for carers. The meeting will be held at the group’s base on Station Road, Bamber Bridge, on Wednesday, April 9 from 7pm to 9pm. All are welcome and there will be no admission cost.
Lane closures still in place
Lane closures will remain on a stretch of the M6 until next week. There is also a 50mph speed limit between Junction 32 at Broughton and 33 at Lancaster until Wednesday, March 13, while work to replace road markings is carried out.
Catch up with Winckley girls
A Winckley Square Old Girls Reunion will be held on Saturday, March 9. All are welcome at the event which will be held at St Pius X Preparatory School, Garstang Road, Preston between 2pm and 5pm. For information contact Mrs GA Dobson on 01772 337666.
Book lovers to share ideas
The monthly Continental Book Club will meet this coming Monday at The Continental, South Meadow Lane, Preston. This month, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath will be discussed at 7.30pm in the snug. Entry is free for the meeting. For more information contact 01772 499425.
Workshop for benefit trouble
Residents can make sure they know how the April benefit changes will affect them at the benefit changes helpdesk event to be held today. Between 9am and 4pm advisors will be on hand to explain any problems or queries at Preston’s Town Hall. An appointment is not needed, anyone interested can come down on the day and be seen as soon as the advisor is free.
Ramblers get out and about
Volunteers will lead free guided rambles of three to six miles long on Wednesday, March 13. Rambles are expected to take around two to three hours and all will start at 10am. Ramblers should meet at Longton Brickcroft nature Reserve, Longton. For information call Paul Crighton on 01772 625581.
Spooky tour at historic tower
Ghost tours will be held at Hoghton Tower next week. Guests will be welcomed to the tower near Preston with a glass of hot mulled wine, before being taken on a trip through the historic venue’s darkened halls from 7.15pm on March 14 and 15. Tickets priced £25 are available from 01254 852986.
