Closure for gym refurbishment

Fulwood Leisure Centre will be closed from today as refurbishment work gets underway. Brand new equipment will be added to the gym and a full decoration will take place before re-opening on December 19. Contact 01772 716085 for information.

Make a wreath

Join the Friends of Hurst Grange Park for Christmas crafts and wreath making at the Coach House, Hurst Grange Park this Sunday between 10am and 3pm.

Festive market for Lancashire

Garstang’s Victorian Christmas Festival takes place next Monday and Tuesday. From 6-9pm on Monday, the town centre is closed to traffic to enable people to wander the stalls safely. Everything from hog roasts to doughnuts are on offer and there will be plenty of entertainment.

Stuck in lift

Firefighters were called to student accommodation in Preston after reports of people stuck in a lift. But the trapped were released before the crew reached Cosmopolitan House in Moor Avenue.

Make lanterns

Christmas carolling lantern making will take place at Preston’s Museum and Art Gallery tomorrow. The session runs from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Festive fun in park’s garden

The Dig In garden in Ashton Park will open its gates for some festive fun tomorrow. From 10am until 12pm there will be fun for all the family, including lantern painting, making a sock reindeer and creating Christmas decorations. Call 07810128019 for info.

The Mayor of South Ribble, Coun Dorothy Gardner, is set to visit St Saviour’s Church, in Church Street, Bamber Bridge at 10am on Tuesday for a preview of their annual Christmas Tree Festival.

Festive market

Longton Christmas Market is set to take place today. It started at 10am and is on until 2pm at St Andrew’s Church Hall.

Discuss issues with city MP

Preston MP Mark Hendrick will hold a surgery for constituents between 11am and 1pm on Saturday, December 14, at the Gujarat Hindu Society in South Meadow Lane. No need to book. The appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Speeding worry

Traffic calming measures are being considered after reports of speeding in Hesketh Street, Poulton Street and St Andrew’s Avenue, Ashton. Police are also preparing more awareness operations.

American diner

Plans to join 312a and 312b Station Road, Bamber Bridge, for use as an American Diner have been approved by South Ribble Council.

Hospice service

A Lights of Love carol service for Chorley’s Derian House Children’s Hospice takes place at Blackburn Cathedral tonight from 7.30pm.
