Advice event over benefits
Preston Council will host a drop in session at the Town Hall on Friday for people to find out about changes to benefits. The changes come in from April. The session will run from 9am until 4pm in the Town Hall’s One Stop Shop on Lancaster Road.
Get ready for first soul night
The inaugural Soul Assembly night will take place in Preston this weekend. Taking place every Saturday night from March 9, the night, held at The Assembly, Lune Street, Preston, for fans of various genres of Soul music. Worldwide DJ Glen Miller will be playing Northern Soul & Motown.
Dynamic debut play at Dukes
A dynamic coming-of-age story with a festival feel will be show at The Dukes Theatre, Lancaster on March 12. Wasted, the debut play by Kate Tempest, is told with a dynamic mix of dialogue, verse and music by some of the most exciting rising stars of theatre and TV. Recommended for ages 14+
Women urged to enter run
Registration is still open for women wishing to run in this year’s Cancer Research Race For Life event. The 5k route, which can be walked, jogged or run, will be open at Preston’s Moor Park on June 16. Visit www.raceforlife.org or call 0845 600 6050.
Generous staff raise hundreds
Staff at Chorley Community Housing (CCH) have raised £600 for Clear Waters - a charity that provides medical equipment and easier access to clean water for people living in the Gambia. The staff raised the funds by paying £1 each time they took part in a monthly ‘dress down’ day. It brings the total over five years to £5,000.
Blood donation session date
A blood donation event will be held tomorrow. The sessions at the Country Hotel and Golf Club, Garstang Road, Garstang, will be held from 2pm-4pm and 5pm-7.30pm.
Sad farewell to tragic grandad
The funeral of a Longridge grandfather will take place tomorrow. Alan Walmsley, 62, died when the HGV he was driving was involved in an eight vehicle collision on the M6. The funeral will be held at noon at St Lawrence and St Paul’s CE church, Church Road, Longridge. It will be followed by a committal at Preston Crematorium, off Longridge Road, Grimsargh.
New house plan for village
Preston city council has received an application to build a two-storey house on land Between Oaklea and Gleadthorpe Goosnargh Lane Goosnargh Preston. The applicants have also asked for planning permission to pitch a static caravan on the site, temporarily. The council is considering .
Offices plan for town’s gym
A gym could be converted into offices in Preston Council approves the plans. The council’s planning department has received an application to change the use of the Kingfisher Gym, Inglewhite Road, Longridge, to offices, which it will consider at its next meeting.
Rail service launched
A new service has been launched for rail passengers to report incidents to the police via text. The British Transport Police (BTP) has launched the 61016 number, which is designed to capture low level, non-emergency incidents, similar to the non-emergency 101 number used by local police forces. BTP deputy chief constable Paul Crowther said: “By encouraging passengers to report incidents via text, we hope we will get a more complete picture of the low level, but all too common, incidents that affect people’s journeys.”
