Store stabbing: Four arrested (with photo gallery and video)
Four men have been arrested after a security guard was stabbed at a Lancashire supermarket.
The worker was attacked by two men as he filled a cash machine at Booths in Liverpool Road, Longton.
Eyewitnesses said he was stabbed in the leg by a machete shortly after 10.10am on Tuesday.
The gang were seen attacking the security guard before fleeing the scene in a black Volkswagen Golf, driven by a third man.
A fourth was sat in the passenger seat. The getaway car was later found ablaze in Stryands, Longton.
Four men, aged 23, 27, 27 and 31 and all from Liverpool, have been arrested and are being quizzed by detectives.
One man, who was sat in the cafe of the supermarket, said: "It was probably all over in five minutes but it felt like longer.
"Most people ran outside as soon as they saw them.
"I went outside but thought better of it and went back in and dialled 999."
Staff at Booths and the security guard's colleague, who was still in the van as the incident took place, gave him first aid until paramedics arrived.
One man, visibly shaken, was seen wrapped in a blanket and talking to detectives.
Police forensic scientists arrived at the scene a short time later.
Police said no cash was taken in the raid.
The police helicopter was also up over the area. The supermarket remained open.
A spokesman for the police said: "We were called to Booths on Liverpool Road in Longton at 10.16am today following an incident in which two security guards who were delivering cash to an ATM have been attacked."
A spokesman for Booths said: "Staff at the Longton store were the first to administer first aid at the scene and we'd like to thank all Longton staff for the way in which they handled this rare and unusual situation quickly.
"Our thoughts are with the injured security man and his family."
