Stepping stone for future independence
Patients have been praising a health team that have been helping them regain their independence.
NHS Central Lancashire has an intermediate care team which includes a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and two resident technical instructors who tailor-make individual care plans.
Ken Bamber 76, from Leyland, says he feels like a new man after the team’s support following a hip replacement.
He said: “My NHS care and treatment has been second to none. From seeing my GP, my hip replacement surgery was carried out within six weeks.
“On my discharge from hospital, I was confident I could manage at home but after only one day I was really down in the dumps, it just didn’t work out.“
The warden from Ken’s sheltered accommodation bungalow contacted the rapid assessment team and the following day, Ken was settled in Grove House, Highfield Road, Adlington on a care programme.
Grove House provides temporary residential care for patients where they receive physiotherapy and occupational therapy treatment in order to help them get back on their feet after hospital treatment.
Five weeks later Ken, was able to go home where the team had adapted his every day living appliances to suit his needs.
Ken said: “I feel like a new man and the care has been brilliant.”
Dorothy Cottell, 87, from Chorley, was discharged from hospital to Grove House following neck surgery. She said: “After being here for just three weeks, with the help of the team and lots of exercises my condition has improved tremendously.”
