Star defends nude calendar

A star of a racy nude calendar vowed to get his kit off again to raise money for a lifesaving charity despite it sparking an angry row.

A risque calendar showing models posing nude intended to raise a smile and funds for the North West Air Ambulance.

But the saucy 5 Bare In The Air calendars have been banned from ambulance stations across the region after furious paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) claimed it damages their integrity and dignity at work.

Granada TV presenter Paul Crone, who uses a first aid box to cover his modesty to star as Mr December, today hit back.

He said: "I respect their views but I am convinced we have not upset anyone's integrity whatsoever.

"I've spoken to people who are in the calendar and not one regrets doing it. If taking my kit off saves someone's life then I'll do it again.

"I am sorry some organisations have banned it and we don't want to upset paramedics. There is no question that we value what they do.

"But no-one was wearing a badge saying 'I'm a paramedic' on it."

A total of 28 volunteers – members of the public, air ambulance staff and even the helicopter pilot – agreed to pose nude with parts of the aircraft and a variety of strategically-placed props.
