Specialist hospice support for patients to stay home

Caring team: Hospice clinical nurse specialists

Caring team: Hospice clinical nurse specialists

Specialist support from St Catherine’s Hospice community clinical nurse specialist team will help patients remain at home this Christmas.

The expert team of community clinical nurse specialists employed by the hospice in Lostock Hall, near Preston, will be continuing their seven-day service throughout the festivities.

The extension in service to cover weekends and Bank Holidays was introduced in October 2011 in a bid to boost the service provided by the hospice’s team of clinical nurse specialists to patients in their own homes.

Working in partnership with district nurses and GPs, the nurses provide advice on complex symptom and pain management issues, alongside psychological support.

Linda Gregory, head of St Catherine’s community services, said: “The aim of the team is to provide the support and advice needed to allow people to remain in their own homes if this is what they choose.”
