Staff at a retail distribution centre in Preston are celebrating raising almost £400,000 children’s charity the NSPCC.

Workers at James Hall and Co Ltd, a distribution centre for SPAR, have raised £390,000 since the partnership began in 2011 through a range of employee and store fund-raising activities.

Across the country, SPAR staff and customers have raised £5m during the chain’s decade long partnership with the NSPCC.

Reaching the £5m mark is largely the result of the fund-raising efforts of the retail chain’s store employees and its five regional wholesale distribution centres, one of which being James Hall and Co Ltd.

Ian Hall, chairman of James Hall and Co, said: “The NSPCC and ChildLine is a very worthwhile charity that supports vulnerable children across all communities. As our stores are located at the heart of their communities we feel that this creates a good link, motivating fund-raising across our stores.”

SPAR has been working with the nation’s leading children’s charity since 2006 raising vital funds to support services including ChildLine and the Speak out. Stay Safe programme which visits primary schools across the UK teaching children how to recognise abuse.

Joni Rock, senior partnership manager at the NSPCC: “Our partnership with SPAR has gone from strength to strength over the past ten years. SPAR employees have always shown great enthusiasm when fund-raising for the NSPCC. It is thanks to their hard work and dedication that this tremendous amount of £5m has been raised to help us deliver our vital services for children and young people.”

Susan Darbyshire, SPAR UK brand director, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our SPAR stores for their dedication to raising funds for the NSPCC over the past 10 years. SPAR and the NSPCC will continue to work together to keep children safe in every community around our stores, with our sports day kits another great way of raising funds for the Speak out Stay Safe programme this year.”
