Songwriter Glyn gets national recognition (with audio)

He wrote the tune in the back room of his girlfriend's house.

And now Glyn Nightingale, from Morris Crescent in Ribbleton, Preston, has achieved national recognition for his songwriting skills.

Glyn, 33, entered his song, First Light, into the dance category of The UK Songwriting Contest (UKSC) in the hope his skills would be recognised – and he was delighted to make it into the semi-finals.

Glyn, who has been writing for some years, says he enjoys a wide range of music, but specifically electronic and music from films such as The Matrix.

He said: "I've always been interested in music and I've been playing the keyboard since I was at school."

In 2001 pop sensation Daniel Bedingfield hit the big time with his debut single debut Gotta Get Thru This, a song he famously composed in his bedroom.

So would Glyn like to follow in his footsteps?

"No," he laughs, "I'm not really into his sort of stuff. The Prodigy and Muse are what I like to listen to, but I do love dance music and I would love to be noticed.

"I'm really pleased to have reached the semi-final even if I didn't win. I plan to carry on writing songs and I'm currently working with a guy who has his own dance label."

His work is currently being showcased on the website www.opticnerveproductions2002.com, which is a production company created by Mark Smith of Longridge.
