Arctic weather conditions are set to continue into the weekend as gale-force winds team up with snow and sleet showers.
Yesterday an amber snow alert was put in place for drivers across the north as the Met Office predicted a flurry of snow last night, continuing into this morning, with further sleet showers predicted later today.
However while temperatures, which have dropped to as low as minus one over the past few days, will increase slightly over the weekend, by Monday temperaures are set to plummit once again.
Over the weekend, while the snow will mostly be confined to higher ground, which could receive as much as 15cm of snow in some areas of the country, Lancashire will see scattered rain and snow showers.
The northerly winds will draw down colder air through the rest of the weekend into early next week and will make way for frosty conditions overnight.
