A city firm has taken a bit of sunshine to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow - in the form of deck chairs.

Sunshine Events, based in Ashton, Preston, has supplied more than 100 deck chairs and one giant deck chair to Games’ organisers for a viewing zone in the Scottish city.

The traditional deck chairs are in the Glasgow Green Live Zone - the go-to-place to watch all the sport completely free.

The opening ceremony was broadcast at the park to more 25,000 people and live festivities will take place at the venue, including great music, dance, comedy, craft and ceilidhs.

Live sport also came to the park as the marathon, cycling time trial and cycling road race start and finished there.

James Sandwell, the company’s co-owner and self-proclaimed director of fun, said: “All the team at Sunshine are very proud to be working with the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and are delighted they chose a Preston-based firm to get involved.

“We are the UK’s fun experts and we wish all the athletes the best of luck.”

Ryan Dunlop, vision control manager for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, added: “When it came to organising the entertainment for the Green Live Zone, we had to be very careful about vetting the suppliers.

“We have very strict delivery time slots due to security reasons and Sunshine Events were extremely accommodating.

“They were always able to change something at the very last minute, they were competitively priced and their portfolio of previous clients is highly reputable.”

The business hires out a host of equipment for parties and weddings such as ice cream tricycles, popcorn and candyfloss carts, inflatables, crazy golf and giant games.

And it’s not the first time the company has been involved in a high profile event,

In 2012 they were asked to recreate a winter wonderland 50 metres up on top of the O2 arena in central London for the opening scene of the Christmas special edition of Channel 5’s The Gadget Show.

For the Royal Wedding the same year they were inundated with equipment hire bookings for people planning celebration events.

Sunshine Events is one of the largest fun equipment hire and event organising companies in the UK.
