Residents of Penwortham now have access to a new website aimed at boosting community links.
TG Marketing, based in Balfour Court, Leyland, have overhauled Penwortham Town Council’s website for free, following criticism that it was dated.
The site now has scope to be used as a tool to report community issues, and is the first of it’s kind to showcase local businesses.
Steve Caswell, town manager, said: “We hope that the side will be used by local residents and traders to highlight events in the area and also concerns that we can then look into.
“It will link into Facebook and Twitter, and we will start to promote businesses on their own web page within the site.
“It will also still have vital pieces of information such as meeting minutes and councillor contact information.
“We hope that this can become a social hub.”
Gareth Arya of TG Marketing, who lived in Penwortham for 30 years, said: “The site’s had a full revamp, but the key part of it is the business section.
“Each Penwortham business will be able to login-in and update their own page with offers and opening times.
“We hope it will become a self-running network in the future.
“We’ve done a lot of websites, but this is quiet unique in this specific requirement. Hopefully we’ll be able to learn from it and work with other councils in the future.”
Steve added: “This is a great opportunity at no cost to the tax payer.”
