A new online community for people affected by sight loss has been launched by Penwortham charity Action for Blind People.

Known as Action Connect, the social-media service is designed for people with sight loss, their friends and carers, to share ideas and tips, as well as to ask and answer questions.

Herbie Yon from the charity based in Howick Park Avenue, said: “Action Connect enables people affected by sight loss to become involved in key aspects of Action for Blind People’s work. It also provides a forum for them to share their experiences and support each other through, often, traumatic experiences and anxiety about the future.”

The charity is also working on how to take this approach offline too, using telephone and face-to-face meetings to offer people choice in the way they connect with others.
