Schools want wake up record

Around 100,000 young people in Lancashire are trying to set an earth-shaking world record as part of Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week.

A mass 'Wake Up & Shake Up' in schools will kick-start a week of events organised by Lancashire County Council.

The attempt is part of Lloyds TSB National School Sports Week, which runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 3.

Sports personalities, Olympic and Paralympic champions will take part as well.

The week will be launched at Corpus Christi Catholic Sports College in Preston. There will be a multi-sports, Olympic-themed activity day with various competitions and events led by Preston City Council's Competition Manager.

Great Britain swimmer and current world-record holder Sascha Kindred, whose career includes six Paralympic, five world and eight European Championship gold medals, will be dropping in during the day.

St Andrew's CE Primary School, in Preston, is welcoming British long-distance runner Helen Clitheroe. She competed in the 1500m at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
