Young pupils were diverted away from a fire as they made their way home from school.

Around 10 firefighters tackled the blaze on the driveway of a house on Severn Drive, Walton-le-Dale, this afternoon.

A worker had returned home in his van which caught fire on his driveway.

The fire spread to a caravan and another vehicle parked on the driveway.

Two fire appliances from Bamber Bridge fire station attended the incident.

Firefighters used foam on the van to extinguish the blaze as quickly as possible, with the caravan and other vehicle being nearby.

The fire started in the back of the van, which contained canisters which were ‘popping off’, said the fire service.

Children from nearby Walton-le-Dale Primary School were kept away from the incident and sent in a different direction from the fire as they made their way home.

The van was badly damaged and there was also damage to the caravan and other vehicle.

No-one was injured.
