A keen runner will compete in her 10th Run Preston event tomorrow.
Zoe Burgess, 43, has taken part in the 10k part of the race through Preston every year since it started.
The mum-of-one, a former Lostock Hall High School pupil, decided after her first race to take part every year.
She said: “When the 1st Preston Run was held, I was a real avid runner who concentrated on half marathons and the only other 10k I had run was the Great Manchester Run. Wanting to support my ‘home town’ I registered.
“It was then just something I decided to do every year. All the family come and support, and we make a real family day of it including both my Nephews Chris and Liam Walton and my Husband Jason, running the Fun 3k run a few times over the years.
“It’s certainly not an easy run and over the years I’ve seen the route change although that hill out of Avenham Park always seems to make an appearance, as well as move from a June date to September. I’ve run it through sun, rain, wind and many injuries.”
Zoe, who now lives in Newton-le-Willows, added: “Over time due to injuries my running has become very sporadic. However, it has been a goal of mine for several years that no matter what, I will register and complete the Preston Run every year. I’ve even postponed a small operation until October so I can run it. I want to be one of those people that in 25 years time, can turn around and say I’ve done every one.
“I do the Race for Life every year for Cancer Research. Any other runs I do in the year I don’t raise money for as I don’t want to keep asking the same people over and over again. I have however run in the past for MacMillan Nurses and Marie Curie.”
