Firefighters were called to two homes in Lancaster after a rubbish bin fire spread to the properties.
Two fire engines attended the scene in Rylands Road at around 5.45am yesterday.
They said the flames set fire to a dividing fence and damaged the facia of both homes.
A window of one house set alight and the first floor was heavily smoke logged. A gas intake pipe was ruptured but officers quickly put out the fire.
Nobody was harmed.
