Sarah Gardner is preparing herself for a sky dive at Black Knights Parachute Centre, Cockerham, on April 15 to raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice. She said: “I am feeling nervous as I never done one before. This is something that’s been on my bucket list, so I thought why wait.“It is all for a good cause.“All the emotions I’m feeling is nothing compared to what patients at the end of life go through.”The 25-year-old, who works at Royal Preston Hospital as an A&E nurse, is also organising a host of other fund-raising events for children’s charity Variety as part of her role as a Miss Preston finalist. So far she has completed a 13-mile walk from Chorley to Royal Preston Hospital and is hosting a cake sale at the hospital, in Sharoe Green Lane North, on Friday.Sarah, of Preston, added: “I am currently raising money for Variety, which helps sick, disabled and disadvantaged kids in the UK with fun days out. “This is all part of being in the Miss Preston final, which I entered because I wanted to gain more self esteem, confidence and help people. “I also wanted to try something totally out of my comfort zone and a new experience.“I felt so privileged when I was offered a place after many applied.“I really want to make a difference. I absolutely love helping people, making them feel at ease, getting them better.“It comes naturally to me and I feel I do that every day in my job, but would also like a new challenge to inspire young women, be a role model and empower them through life skills I’ve already learnt and been through. “As well as raise as much money as possible for charities, it is so rewarding and such a good feeling. “I met all the other girls at an activity day. They are all amazing and have a lot to offer. We all have our own aim of what we would like from the competition. Hopefully I am trying to do a speed dating event, plus walking the guild wheel and other activities with the rest of the Miss Preston finalists “I have a target of £200 to reach for the charity but every little helps.“I’m really looking forward to the journey and any other potential opportunities.”The Miss Preston final takes place at The Playhouse Theatre on April 14.To support Sarah visit www.facebook.com/Sarah-Gardner-Miss-Preston-2017-Finalist-
