Robbers target cabbie

Two masked men have attempted to hold up a taxi in Fulwood, Preston.

The police say that two boys aged around 16 approached the taxi in Watling Street Road at the junction of Highfield Avenue near the White Hart pub demanding cash at around 10.55pm. But he responded by crashing his car.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "The taxi driver reported to police officers on Watling Street Road he had been the victim of an attempted robbery while he was stopped at Highfield Avenue.

"Two youths have demanded cash from him and he's reacted to this demand by reversing his taxi at speed down the road. The consequence of this is he has collided with two stationary vehicles.

"He was not injured and no property was stolen. The scene is being investigated."

The two youths are described as wearing dark clothing.
