Motorists are being warned to expect road closures in Preston city centre on Sunday as cars make way for bikes in the Big Pedal Cycle Event.
A large section of the city will be cordoned off, especially around the Winckley Square and Avenham area.
The County Council has made a temporary order to shut down a number of streets from 9am to 4pm to allow the event to take place and protect the safety of participants and spectators.
The authority will also be suspending some of the city’s one-way restrictions for the same seven-hour period.
The roads affected wholly or partially by closure will be:
• Avenham Colonnade, Avenham Lane, Back Starkie Street, Campden Place, Chapel Street, Cross Street, East Cliff, Garden Street, Regent Street, Ribblesdale Place, Winckley Square and Winckley Street.
An alternative route for traffic will be via: Avenham Lane, Queen Street, London Road, Stanley Street, Ring Way and Corporation Street. Council staff will signpost the diversions.
The temporary suspension of the one-way system will involve: East Cliff Road, Garden Street, Mount Street, Regent Street, Starkie Street, Winckley Square and Winckley Street.
The Big Pedal will be centred in Avenham Park and include numerous cycle-based events as well as live music, a funfair, bouncy castle and an outdoor bar.
