A popular gym is due to close for two weeks to allow a major revamp to take place.
The makeover at Fulwood Leisure Centre, Preston, will see the gym kitted out with new high-tech equipment, flooring and decoration.
The gym will close for two weeks from Friday and will reopen on December 19.
Coun Tom Burns, cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “The council is investing £500,000 in the refurbishments of gyms at both city leisure centres, which are extremely popular.
“In a very competitive field, we must have the newest equipment, offering the best workout experience for Prestonians, to generate much needed income for the council.
“Whilst we apologise for the inconvenience of having to close the gym during this time, it will be worth the wait when visitors see the results. The gym at West View Climbing and Leisure Centre remains open, and people are very welcome to make use of those facilities.”
The refurbishment sees the installation of the latest equipment from health and fitness innovators, Technogym.
All the equipment is from Technogym’s 700 series, and includes technology allowing users to surf the net whilst training.
Access to TV, radio channels and interactive games, compatible with iPods and iPhones, also widens the range on offer to accompany a workout.
A similar re-fit will take place at West View Climbing and Leisure Centre in January next year.
Alternative gym facilities are available at West View whilst Fulwood gym is closed. Opening times are available at www.preston.gov.uk/leisure
Pool and classes are still available as normal at Fulwood leisure centre during this time.
