Residents in Walton Park near Walton-le-Dale, Preston were left without power for more than 24 hours.

177 houses were affected from 1am on Tuesday morning until 4pm the following Wednesday afternoon due to an underground cable fault.

Storage heaters, which are scheduled to switch on overnight to heat some of the properties, were also affected by the power cut meaning elderly residents were left in the cold overnight.

Phil Briggs, response manager for Electricity North West, said: “I would like to apologise for the delay in restoration and any inconvenience caused.

“I ask any customers who have not contacted us already to call us on 0800 195 4141.”

Sheila Shaw, who lives in Walton Park said; “My husband woke at 5am at realised we had no power.

“I was worried for the people in the sheltered housing.”
