A 10-year-old boy who threatened a teacher with a knife in front of classmates has been excluded from school.

The pupil, who has behavioural problems, had to be restrained by two other members of staff at St Teresa’s RC Primary School in Penwortham. No-one was injured.

The incident, on Thursday, alarmed parents.

One father, who asked not to be named, said: “He had a knife and a lot of parents are worried for their children if he is allowed to return to school.”

Headteacher Anne Bleasdale, said: “There was an incident in school which was dealt with swiftly and effectively by our staff. The safety of our pupils is our paramount concern and I can reassure parents that no-one was hurt and at no point was any child in physical danger.”

Police were not called to the incident which the school say involved a cutlery knife.
