Visitors to pub toilets in Hutton will soon be blown away by the new salon-style fittings.
Straightners and a hairdryer are being installed in the ladies as part of a £38,000 overhaul of facilities at The Anchor in Liverpool Road, Hutton. There will also be a vanity shelf with hair products and hand creams available, all free of charge.
“It’s going to be like what you see in hotels”, said landlord Martyn Driscoll, who took over the pub a year ago with partner Liam Mills.
Martyn added: “It’s a gimmick, but in this area we do tend to mostly attract people who like to dress up and look good when they go out. We want to provide something different to other pubs.”
The couple are also in the process of installing a disabled toilet and baby changing facilities for the first time.
Martyn added: “The toilets were really grotty before. The regulars have told us nothing had been done with them for about 36 years.”
To mark the couple’s first year at the pub they are organising a Grand Reopening for the end of February, which is expected to feature an X Factor finalist singling live.
A new ‘smoke shack’ will also open that weekend offering hog roasts, and Martyn and Liam are pressing ahead with more investments to draw punters back in to the once-struggling pub.
New windows and a new conservatory are planned, the exterior is being repainted, a £10,000 childrens play ‘ship’ has been ordered, and the front area will be turfed and fenced off.
