The Lancashire Association of Trades Union Councils has written to all county MPs asking them whether they support the Government’s intention to reduce public spending to its lowest level in 80 years.

Peter Billington, LATUC secretary, said: “People deserve to know where Lancashire MPs stand on cuts which would reduce standards to those of the 1950s.”

The information was published by the Office for Budget Responsibility in December and is based on the Government’s budget in the same month.

The OBR report states: “Total public spending is now projected to fall to 35.2 per cent of GDP in 2019-20, taking it below the previous post-war lows reached in 1957-58 and 1999-00 to what would probably be its lowest level in 80 years.”

The LATUC represents over 30,000 trade union members across the county.
