A subdued quiet fell over the Sir Tom Finney Pub in Penwortham, when news broke of the icon’s death.
Landlord Brian Jenkinson said: “It was about 9.30pm when word started to come through from the LEP’s Twitter account, and then later on Facebook.
“The atmosphere changed, it became subdued while everyone took the news in, and started talking about Sir Tom. We decided to hold a minute’s silence.
“Then our human jukebox Keith built the atmosphere up again with a sing-song for Sir Tom.”
He added: “As a pub, especially because we are named after him, we will be looking to put on some kind of memorial event for Sir Tom.”
