Police have launched an investigation after a man approached a teenage girl.

The 13-year-old was walking along a footpath near Chorley Cricket Club at 8.15am today when the man is believed to have grabbed her lower back before making off.

Insp Charlie Cox, of Chorley police, said: “We understand that residents will be concerned but I would like to reassure them that these types of incidents are very rare.

“A police investigation is underway and we will be increasing patrols in the area.”

The man was white, approximately 5ft 9in tall, in his late 30s, medium to heavy build with short dark brown hair. He wore a white/orange short-sleeved shirt, jeans, possibly a brown belt and brown shoes.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101.
