STRIKE: Preston Prison

Education staff at three Lancashire prisons are to go on strike in a row over pay and conditions.

Members of the University and College Union which work with offenders at Preston Prison and the jails at Garth and Wymott in Ulnes Walton, near Preston, will take part in the action next Wednesday.

The staff which are employed by The Manchester College

One worker, who asked not to be named, said: “They want to deliver this service on the cheap.”

A spokesman for The Manchester College said it anticipated “minimum disruption” due to the action.

She said: “Our aim is to use public money wisely, to reduce the number of job losses and treat our employees fairly, and to maintain excellent quality of service.”
