Snow is falling - maybe not all around us, but definitely so in Preston, where one city trader has decided to make dreams of a white Christmas come true.

Staff at PC Carpets in Fishergate have been showering a covering of the white stuff on shoppers as they pass by the store.

Manager John Richardson said the shop, on the corner of Lune Street, has installed two snow making machines in it’s third floor showroom.

Staff are turning them on randomly and sending the fluffy stuff pouring through the windows and into the city centre, adding a new dimension to the festive lights adorning the street.

Bemused shoppers had to look twice as they were caught unawares by the sudden snow flurries but so far they have gone down a treat.

John said: “The response has been incredible.

“We haven’t done anything like this before but it has really gone down well.”

He added: “The idea was to bring a bit of festive cheer to the city centre.

“After all, we’ve had enough misery with all the road works that have been going on over the past year.

“It has been great to see the reaction of people as they pass by.

We’ve had people stopping and taking photographs and everything.”

The shop, which sells a variety of furniture and accessories as well as flooring, has also decked out the shop windows.
