A retired Preston mechanic is appealing for help after being diagnosed with asbestos-related cancer.

Robert Burns, 76, from Walton-le-Dale, was ‘completely shocked’ when he was diagnosed with the mesothelioma in August 2014.

He believes his condition was caused by exposure to asbestos while in employment at Harshaw Brook Garage for St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council during the 1970’s and between 1990 to 2003.

Robert with the help of legal team Irwin Mitchell is now appealing to his former workmates at to come forward with information about the working conditions.

Robert, a father-of-four, said: “I have always been healthy and independent, but since my diagnosis I have come to rely on my grandson Wesley and I’m unable to do a lot of the things I used to.”
