Headteacher Sam Oates is on her way to London – with the whole school behind her.

Sam, who holds the reins at Fulwood and Cadley Primary School in Preston, is running her first marathon race through the capital city.

Along with her husband Andrew, Sam, who lives in Hoghton, is taking part in the race on April 26 to raise money for the British Lung Foundation (BLF).

In order to make sure she reaches her goal – both financially and by crossing the finishing line – the school community has got behind her.

They are organising a mini marathon fun day tomorrow.

The runners will be given information about the importance of healthy and active lifestyles as well as the opportunity to take part in a mini marathon and other fun activities .

Sam, who started running with Blackburn Road Runners in 2011, got involved with the charity after her late father was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Sam said: “I had only just taken up running when my dad became seriously ill and I told him that one day I would run a marathon and now I have the chance .”
