Preston North End have suffered a huge blow with the news that striker Stevie May has been ruled out for the rest of the season

The Scotland forward has suffered major knee ligament damage.

May sustained the injury in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw against Fulham on Saturday at Craven Cottage.

At the time, PNE boss Simon Grayson feared the worst for his player and the extent of the injury was confirmed during a scan on Wednesday.

Grayson said: "We got the news back on Wednesday and it's not good news for Stevie to start with and us as a football club.

"He's going to be out for the season. He's suffered ligament damage and a little bit of other damage in there as well.

"Everybody connected with the club is devastated for the lad because he's a good kicd, but hopefully he will come back strong."

May arrived at Deepdale from Sheffield Wednesday in September for a fee reportedly in the region of £750,000.

He has made eight appearances so far this season and is waiting for his first goal for the club
