Planners tells man to knock down extension

A man has been warned he will be taken to court unless he pulls down an extension he built nearly four years.

The planning committee of South Ribble Council told Paul Margerison that it will start legal proceedings against him unless he pulls down the extension at his home on Liverpool Road, Hutton, in less than a fortnight.

It rejected a proposal to alter the extension and ordered its demolition by September 18.

Neighbour Anthony Ashworth, who has lived in the house for the last ten years, told the committee that the extension was “the worst case of building I have seen in 50 years in the construction industry.”

He said: “It is completely unsightly, I do not think there is a brick in it which is laid straight.

“It has caused me horrendous problems ever since it was built in 2006 and it has just dragged on and on since then.

“It has turned my semi-detached house into an end terrace property and what is that going to do for the value of my house?”

The meeting heard that Mr Margerison had been granted planning permission for the two-storey extension in 2006 but that it was “not constructed in accordance with the approved plans.”

A report for the committee, drawn up by planning manager Helen Hockenhull, said that two enforcement notices had been issued on the extension due to it failing to comply with the approved plans and the sub-division of the house.

She described the work as “an overly dominant addition to the house which had resulted in inappropriate development within the green belt.”

The planning officer told the committee: “The extension gives these two semi-detached homes the look of a terrace of properties.”

Coun Graham Walton said the applicant had “shown complete disregard” for the approval granted in 2006 as the committee voted unanimously in favour of ordering Mr Margerison to demolish the extension at the meeting on Wednesday.

Mr Margerison did not attend the meeting to address the committee about the work carried out to his home.

There is a brick garden wall off New Hall Lane somewhere on a corner (Brockholes View??) that this guy built himself that is so wavey it looks like a magic eye picture - always makes me laugh. Yes, a picture would have been nice...

I agree, Spaceman - this report is next to useless without a picture to give the reader an idea of what the fuss is about.

Yes, you're quite right, it should! And why has it taken four years to bring this to court?

"A man has been warned he will be taken to court unless he pulls down an extension he built nearly four years" Sloppy grammar LEP, should the sentence not end with the word 'ago'?
