Pig makes dramatic bid for freedom
A flying Lancashire pig made a leap for freedom before going on the run managing to evade teams of captors for hours.
When a Vietnamese pot bellied pig leapt from a trailer while being delivered to the Leisure Lakes caravan and camping park in Mere Brow, near Preston, a full-scale search was launched to try to relocate the elusive hog.
The owner spent the night of Friday April 25 scouring the area before calling in the RSPCA on Saturday morning, along with several members of the public, to extend the search.
He was eventually cornered lying low under a caravan.
Derek Hampson RSPCA animal collection officer said: "He jumped over the trailer's barrier and took off, just as he was about to be unloaded.
"We were very concerned about his stress levels because his owner had already spent eight hours trying to catch him the day before.
"We had to crawl underneath it to get him out, it really was a team effort."
Owner Gordon Williams, who runs a pet's corner on the site, said: "I'm very grateful to the RSPCA and members of the public who helped.
"He's now back where he should be, happy and safe with his mate, where hopefully he'll live out the rest of his life."
