MUD, and plenty of it, was the order of the day for 2,500 women taking part in a fundraising 5km obstable course around Preston’s Moor Park on Saturday.

Waves of 300 entrants were set off in 15 minute intervals for the city’s first Pretty Muddy, and gradually a sea of pink, neon yellow, green and orange outfits, turned brown as the ladies splashed through mud pits, over climbing nets and under tunnels.

Spectators lined the five kilometre course to watch their loved ones compete and raise money for Cancer Research UK. A total of around £130,000 in sponsorship was pledged by those taking part.

Event organiser Rhian Coathup said: “This is the first time we’ve held Pretty Muddy in Preston, and it’s been fantastic to see all the girls taking part and enjoying themselves.

“It’s a more laid back event that’s a bit daft, so it’s interesting event to watch, and people have been out supporting their friends and family all over the course.

“Moor Park is a great location to have it in and we always get a lot of support from the people of Preston, so we’re aiming to come back again next year.”
