A person was taken to hospital after suffering a "medical episode" in Preston city centre.

Police officers and paramedics rushed to Friargate following reports a member of the public had suffered a medical episode near Cash Converters at around 2.40pm today (December 16).

Images from the scene show at least three police cars and an ambulance attended the scene to help the patient.

The North West Ambulance has now confirmed a person has been taken to Royal Preston Hospital, but no further details have been released at this stage.

A NWAS spokeswoman said: "We sent a number of resources to the scene and we have taken a patient to Royal Preston Hospital.

"We were called to reports of a medical episode at around 2.43pm."
