When teachers at St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School in Penwortham asked pupils to bring in a toy for the needy, they were bowled over by the first class response.

Every child at the school, in Stanley Grove, and their staff not only took in a toy but also wrapped them in festive paper to ensure youngsters at the Women’s Refuge will have something to open on Christmas morning.

Meanwhile, staff and pupils at St Matthew’s CE Primary School in Preston used their last assembly to pay tribute to the heroes of the First World War.

They sang carols by candlelight and the names of the soldiers from St Matthew’s Church are going to be read out some of the Year Five pupils, and staff, had been buy learning to play brass instruments so they could sound the Last Post.
