A 79-year-old woman has died following a car crash in Preston.

The crash happened yesterday afternoon at the junction of the A583 Watery Lane and Port Way in the city centre.

No injuries were reported at the scene but 79-year-old Eunice Whalley, who was a passenger in one of the cars involved, was later taken ill at her home in Chorley.

She was taken by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital, but sadly later died.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, which was between a silver Ford Focus and a foreign registered green Saab 95. It happened at around 5.30pm on Saturday.

PS Gareth Hill of South Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family and friends of Eunice at this difficult time. An investigation into how the collision occurred is underway and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us.”
