A police community support officer is having her blonde locks shaved off to show her support for St Catherine’s Hospice.

Debs Jones, a PCSO with Lancashire Police, will say goodbye to her shoulder length hair on Saturday.

She is collecting sponsorship for the hospice through the stunt, which she said is her way of ‘giving something back’ for the support her family received from one of the hospice’s Clinical Nurse Specialists when her father James Hall was ill with cancer three years ago.

Debs, 49, said: “The home visits from the hospice nurse were such a great help - they found the right words to talk through things with my dad.

“This was such a help to my mum during what was a really tough time.

“I’m also doing this in memory of two close friends of mine who have sadly died – Marie Houghton, who was cared for on the In-Patient Unit at St Catherine’s, and Diane Deighan.” I may not be able to run a marathon or climb a mountain, but this is something I can do to support the hospice and the amazing work they do for people like my dad, and my family and friends.”
