TOUGH CLIMB: Penwortham couple Dave and Paula Holmes are used to climbing metaphorical mountains. Since setting up the Katy Holmes Trust in memory of their daughter, who died from a brain tumour at the age of 10, they have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to help fund research into the disease. Now, they are planning to raise even more money when Paula, with a small group of friends, scales Mount Kilimanjaro. The group sets off for Tanzania and Africas highest mountain tomorrow.

Now, they are planning to raise even more money when Paula, with a small group of friends, scales Mount Kilimanjaro. The group sets off for Tanzania and Africa’s highest mountain tomorrow.

Dave is staying home to look after the couple’s two young daughters while Paula will be joined by Darren Adair, Angel Adair, Gareth Hargreaves and Tremane Francis on the climb. Between them they have already raised thousands of pounds.

Paula said: “ We are being joined in Africa by Rob and Khush who are flying in from Australia to join our trek in memory of their daughter Isabella who died of DIPG like Katy. They run the Isabella and Marcus Paediatric Brainstem Tumour Fund.”
