One businessman is in the ‘throws’ of preparing for a very wet summer.
Paul Atkinson has stuck his neck out and volunteered to put himself in the stocks at this year’s Leyland Festival.
Paul, of the family firm Atkinson’s Jewellers, Hough Lane, Leyland, says he is looking forward to taking part in the summer show – but isn’t quite sure if there will only be wet sponges hurled at him.
“I’ll be there getting things thrown at me – probably darts by my-ex wife,” he joked.
A mock-up picture of Paul in the stocks outside his Leyland shop has been put up on the Leyland Town Team Facebook page.
“With being local, I’ve been in Leyland all my life, everybody knows me,” said Paul.
“What better than to throw something at me, anything for the town.”
The Leyland Festival takes place this year on Saturday, June 18.
And the fun-filled family spectacular will take on the theme of Superheroes.
Paul said: “It seems to be getting better and better and I think this year, with it being Superheroes, that’s a good ploy with the kids.
“A lot of kids love Superheroes and a lot of adults like dressing up as Superheroes.
“A lot of dads are Superheroes – a lot of mums are Superheroes. I think this year will be a cracker.”
The festival is staged by South Ribble Council with determined help from the Leyland Town Team.
The team was established in early 2013 and is made up from a group of local businesses and community groups who are passionate about engaging with local people, retailers, landlords, partners and community groups.
