Parrot eats false leg

A one-legged parrot has been given a false leg - but decided to eat it instead.

African Grey Parrot George - who lost his leg after an animal attacked his aviary - was fitted with the prosthetic limb by experts at Salford University.

His concerned owner Sheila Weare contacted them after the poor bird started falling off his perch when he tried to sleep.

So Dr Glyn Heath from Salford made the limb - which was fitted into his cage this week.

Unfortunately George has shown more interest in eating the lining of the device, rather than fitting his leg into it to get his balance.

But Dr Heath - who has previously made legs for dogs, rats and even a panda - is convinced that George will soon get the hang of it.
