Parents petition for double yellow lines in Buckshaw Village

About 150 residents have signed a petition as part of a campaign to see Lancashire County Council ‘fill the gap’ in the double yellow lines in Village Way.

A break in the double yellows allows drivers to park right next to the designated Buckshaw Primary School crossing point where the lollipop lady is stationed.

Euxton parish councillor Aidy Riggott, who initiated the petition, said: “Safety is the primary concern. I set up this petition as like many fellow parents, I am really concerned that there will be an entirely preventable accident outside the school.”

In a statement the county council, said: “We have carried out observations at this location and do not consider parking to be a persistent problem in terms of blocking sightlines or causing a road safety issue.

“We have already put parking restrictions in place around nearby junctions to ensure sightlines are clear and support the school crossing patrol, and are closely monitoring traffic in Buckshaw Village on an ongoing basis to identify any issues as roads throughout Buckshaw are adopted by the county council.”

However coun Riggott does not believe this is a ‘sensible or suitable long-term approach’ for the area.
