The friends of a popular university student who died from cancer are holding a memorial match in his memory at the weekend.
Christopher Curwen lost his battle with lymphoma in September 2010 at the age of just 23.
He was a sports coaching student at UClan and a former Myerscough College student.
Now in his honour his friends will play in the The Chris Curwen Memorial Cup - something they hope will become an annual event.
The first memorial match will be held at noon tomorrow at Myerscough College at the Bilsborrow campus.
An old boys team made up of Christopher’s friends will go head to head with the winners of the University of Central Lancashire’s annual tournament.
Organiser Yusuf Kaffo, 24, who met Christopher at university said: “I think it is something he would really appreciate and be glad we are doing it.
“When he was with us he was one of the lads. We are a close group of friends, we used to play on a Saturday and didn’t have transport but Chris had a car and would take us to matches.
“The people on the team knew him at university.
“We were close friends and a lot of people who lived with him will be there too.”
Christopher from Preesall also played for local team Wyre Villa.
Each player from the old boys team will donate £5 to charity of Christopher’s family’s choice.
