Police said a home on Emmanuel Street was broken into at about 10pm on Thursday.
The homeowner is thought to have disturbed the offenders as she arrived home from work.
Police believe an unknown number of people forced access at the back of the property and took three valuable paintings, two sewing machines and a laptop.
The paintings, valued at more than £30,000, are original Italian religious works of art.
They are about 2ft by 2ft in size, in dark oak antique frames.
One painting features Jesus on the cross, another the Virgin Mary and Jesus, and the third features Our Lady Virgin Mary.
Police are now appealing for information.
DC Warren Gibson said: “This has understandably been an upsetting experience for the victim and we are keen to trace and return the valuable paintings to her as soon as possible.
“Anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the paintings should contact me direct on 01257 246278 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
