Outbreak of dance fever (with video)

Young people from throughout Lancashire take over The Dukes in Lancaster next weekend for an energetic and exciting dance, theatre and film event.

On Saturday May 16, groups from across the county including the Ribble Valley Youth Dance Company with groups from Bowland and Longridge; Integr8, a group of young dancers both with and without disabilities from Preston; Chorley Boys based at St Michael's School; and Ludus Youth Dance Company in Lancaster, will take part in a myriad of workshops including street dance and theatre skills.

Highlight of the festival will be performances by the young people at The Dukes, in Lancaster on Friday May 15 and the following evening. Each will see a different mix of styles.

The 2009 Lancashire Youth Dance Festival is also providing an opportunity for budding young film makers to get their work screened in a professional theatre venue.

Hannah Robertshaw, festival organiser, said: "It provides young people with a unique opportunity to access dance workshops, dance film screenings and dance performance. More than 200 young people are set to take part."
