A children’s hospice is offering a new warm welcome, thanks to a summer makeover.
Derian House in Astley Village near Chorley, approached Preston-based wallpaper specialists Forrest & Jones, Lytham St Anne’s designers BWD Ltd and illustrator Julian Mosedale, to transform the reception area.
Now, thanks to new wall covering technology, patients and their families are enjoying woodland and alien scenes.
Mark Forrest, a director with Forrest & Jones, said: “We were introduced to Derian House by Beverley Wood of BWD who were invited to re-design their reception area.
“While visiting the hospice I chatted to one of their senior staff who said there were a couple of corner areas which could do with some attention.
“She had heard of Magalomania, the magnetic-based design technology created at Forrest & Jones and came to our offices to look at examples of what it could be used for.
“She was so impressed we offered to create a child-friendly woodland scene and another based on outer space, featuring aliens and rocket magnets.
“I know the kids liked the new makeovers because shortly after the new designs were installed I received an email from one of the senior staff who said: “I can hear the excited chatter of a young chap in the corridor who is making up names for the aliens and a wee story about what they are doing – he is totally engrossed.”
Forrest & Jones also installed a ‘Welcome’ wallpaper mural printed, featuring the word welcome in several languages.
Leading London-based illustrator Julian Mosedale was approached to help with the project by Forrest & Jones managing director Gareth Jones. He said: ”I was delighted to provide the illustrations and I am very pleased to hear that the children like the artwork.”
Susie Poppitt of Derian House said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the new wall murals which are just so vibrant and imaginative. The children love the quirkiness of the designs which allow them to engage with their interactive aspect and create their own stories around them.”
