Olympic challenge for charity

A Preston-based charity is hoping the successful Beijing Olympics will encourage fund-raisers to attempt their own Chinese challenge.

Galloway's Society for the Blind has places available to walk the Great Wall of China in 2009 as part of its international challenge.

The trek, however, is not for the faint-hearted – it will involve conquering the 1,000 steps at Matinayu, watch towers and battlements, and will stretch over nine days.

Appeals manager, George Turner, said: "We are delighted by the success of Team GB and we offer them our sincerest congratulations.

"For many people we support everyday life is a challenge of Olympic proportions.

"Our aim is to minimise the effects of reduced vision for more than 6,500 blind and partially-sighted people. To do this we must raise over 700,000 a year."

If you would like to know more about this opportunity to take in the sights and culture of China while raising funds please call George on 01772 753706 or email to george.turner@galloways.org.uk
