Nurses from Lancashire’s alcohol awareness team attended the House of Commons to celebrate International Nurses Day.

The day is an annual event which sees the public, nursing staff and their patients come together to celebrate nursing and the nursing profession.

Two nurses from the hospital alcohol liaison service (HALS) were invited by the Royal College of Nursing to attend the reception yesterday.

Emma Dermody, clinical lead nurse specialist, was one of the nurses invited to the House of Commons and said: “We set up the service just under a year ago when it was identified that reducing alcohol related hospital admissions is not only a priority nationally but locally too. The team have worked extremely hard and we work with patients to assess and help with their physical, psychological and social needs.”
